Our Standards
Our Mission
Last updated June 2, 2026
Home energy decisions — solar, batteries, a new heat pump, an EV charger — are some of the largest purchases a household makes outside of the house itself, and they're made with less transparent pricing than almost anything else that size. Our mission is to close that gap: to make the underlying math of every recommendation visible, so a reader can check our work and apply it to their own numbers instead of trusting a national average.
What that means in practice
- Every calculator shows its formula and its assumptions, not just an output.
- Every cost claim is dated and sourced, because these numbers move — an article from two years ago quoting today's prices as current is a failure, not a shortcut.
- We write about what a technology gets wrong or where it doesn't pay off, not only where it shines.
- Company listings disclose exactly how we verified them and whether the relationship is commercial.
What we won't do
We won't publish a "top 10" list ranked by affiliate commission, run countdown-timer urgency tactics, or frame a federal tax credit as "free government money" — it's a credit against taxes owed, and we'll always describe it accurately, sourced to the IRS.
