Editorial Policy

Independence

Editorial decisions — what we cover, what we conclude, how a product or company is described — are made independently of advertising and affiliate relationships. No advertiser or affiliate partner reviews or approves article content before publication, and none can request changes to a rating or ranking.

Authorship

Every article has a named author and, where the subject involves technical claims (system sizing, electrical safety, code compliance), a named technical reviewer with relevant credentials. See Authors & Reviewers.

Sourcing standards

We prioritize primary sources: government agencies (IRS, DOE, EIA, EPA), manufacturer specifications, and peer-reviewed or industry-standard data. Every factual claim about cost, savings, or program eligibility links to its source and shows the date we accessed it.

Commercial content

Product reviews and company directory listings are commercial content by nature — some involve affiliate relationships — and are always labeled as such per our Affiliate Disclosure. They are held to the same factual-accuracy standard as editorial articles; the disclosure is about the business relationship, not a lower bar for accuracy.

Updates and corrections

Articles are reviewed at least annually or whenever the underlying program (a tax credit, a rebate, a rate structure) changes. See our Corrections Policy for how we handle errors.
